30 Days of Madisonnets, Day 21

During trying times, one must take care not to lose one's enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm? Lost it; it’s gone out the door,
flown the coop, said bye-bye, sailed away from the shore.
Who knows when I shall ever hear from it again?
Though, I imagine, it would be best to abstain
from such reckless, wild and lurid speculation
at times like these. Therefore, my sole expectation
must be that such things are not as they’ve always been,
but will become in fact how they’ve come to be seen.
And since such seeing passes near to believing,
I’m sure that I’ll see that it’s useless, this grieving
over milk spilling out when there’s tea to be had,
for where there’s tea, things almost surely can’t be bad.
So let me reconsider the bright side once more,
and look--my enthusiasm’s there on the floor!
