April Lynn James, classically trained soprano with a PhD in Music from Harvard, is affectionately known as The PhDiva. Dr. April has sung and recorded as a chorister and soloist in  the U.S.A. and Europe, gracing venues such as N.Y. Symphony Space and Unity of Fort Myers, among others. A native New Yorker now living in Fort Myers, Florida, her favorite songs are Christmas carols, and her favorite time of year to be singing is Christmas. Praised for her “absolutely inspired energy,” her unique concerts combine baroque arias, popular songs, movie music and storytelling.

During her doctoral years, she healed from stress-induced weight gain, depression, and tendonitis by practicing dance, mime, and juggling. Post-PhD, she returned to New York City and founded the Maria Antonia Project to bring her research on operas composed by women to the stage. 

She credits an unplanned viewing of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland with sparking a creative and spiritual reawakening that led her through Lewis Carroll’s works to her guardian angel, Madison Hatta, Sonneteer. She has published 52 of Madison’s Wonderland-inspired whimsical rhymes thus far.
