30 Days of Madisonnets, Day 13

More from August 2011:

Life doesn’t feel at all the way it did before.
No consuming passions, no running out the door
to catch the latest trend, hitch wagon to a star.
Stars, I’ve heard, are mortal and now I take the car
to the train, to the park and all points in-between;
it is the quickest way to have a change of scene.
And from what I’ve seen, it seems beyond a doubt
that it is time, once again, to gaze up and out.
I’ve heard that one can settle anywhere, yet roam
the whole wide world easily ‘til one finds a home
where the heart is happy. Ah yes, yes, that would do!
To let my heart rule my foot and give me a clue
as to my next step, for I know not what’s in store. . .
though I have an inkling that I’ve been here before.

What’s fascinating to me about these sonnets is that the themes are still relevant in my life over a decade later. Lately, I have been gazing “up and out” and asking my heart what would make it happy. Perhaps this is a lifelong quest.
