It was a love-filled trip even before I boarded the plane. This is a photo of me with my nephew, Jusan.

My nephew and his wife met me where I dropped off my car in Orlando, and then they drove me to the airport. This was our first meeting. Ever. The story of why it took 36 years for Jusan and me to meet is not one that I’ll get into right now. Let’s just go with “all’s well that ends well” for now, shall we?
The Widukind Foundation is located in Szakony, Hungary not far from the Austrian border.

The door of a nearby Riding School.

The church behind which was the town hall where we had rehearsals.

A few of Christoph Pesch’s hand-crafted instruments. He is a master instrument maker.

The week in Hungary was beautiful. Yes, it was time spent rehearsing and making music, but it was mainly time spent together sharing from the heart. Time spent together in nature sharing meals and smiles and conversation; having a chance to look at the field where the concert hall will be built; creating butterfly cards to be distributed to audience members during the concert…
Some thoughts I jotted into my phone shortly before falling asleep that night after the concert:
I feel like everyone here mirrored parts of my journey
No competition
Sharing the same heart
Really seen
Real feelings
Common purpose
Deep
Not superficial
Holy
Beyond words
The recording of the concert can be found on this page of the Widukind Foundation website: https://www.widukind-foundation.com/en/the-concert. In case you were wondering, I have a mini solo on the track, “Widukind”, shortly before the end.
I wish all creative encounters could feel as relaxed, inspired, open-hearted as this.
